Hmm. I havent shared – I broke a bone in my left foot!
Its the 5th metatarsal. The specialist ha said I have to be in a cast and keep all weight off it till I see him again because its VERY close to being a Jones fracture which would need surgery. He is hoping that it is high enough that the cast will be enough.
I took the 22nd and 23rd off work to help my parents move stuff into our new house (they tore down the old one and rebuilt on the same block). So anyways – at about 8am on Friday (23rd) I was carrying a few things down to mums car (nothing heavy). I was wearing sandals because dad is adamant no one can wear shoes into the new house yet so we have to kick them off at the door and thats a wee bit tricky when you are carrying stuff. So I was almost at the end of my sisters driveway when my foot slid off teh side off the sandal. I started falling down and heard a crack in my foot.
After a few mins i was able to get up. I could walk on my foot but it hurt a bit. I went up to the house and got something else but after that mum got very crabjy and made me sit in the car while she got everything else i was planning to grab.
I didnt get to go to the doctors till late in the afternoon, then I got the x-ray done and afterwards the girl who did it nearly freaked because i kept walking on my foot. I have learnt I seriously SUCK at useing crutches.
Through a series of minor crises involving mother freaking out a few times, the cast wasnt put on till this Tuesday. I saw a specialist on Monday and I have to stay off the foot for 6 weeks. On the 11th I go back to see how the foot is healing in the cast. I have a doctors certificate till the 13th.
If I still cant put any weight on the foot after the 11th I am so screwed. I work in North Sydney. The train station has no elevator and no ramps, just a load of stairs. Plus the walk from the station to our office is NOT short. I can barely get around the house on crutches. My right leg cant take the weight and I keep over-balancing.
*sigh*
