Not a post about RA! Its shocking!
So finally, after being CRAZY about this musical for a number of years i FINALLY GOT TO SEE IT LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sure I blogged here in the past about it (but perhaps not) but the first time I listened to the Bradway Cast recording I was at work and I was listening to it and crying because I identified with Elphaba SOOO much! Way to make a good impression at work though, eh? 😀
Anyways so I have loved it for years and I had seen a bootleg recording of it so I had technically seen it, but of course being there in the flesh is always sooooo epically, awesomely different! I will never forget seeing Notre Dame de Paris live. When the overture started I teared up, and it was just the same with Wicked!
Am so used to listening to Idina Menzel powering through the songs that when the girl playing Elphaba (we got the standby girl Jemma Rix) started I was a little unsure about her but oh man….when she had to she could power up her voice to epic proportions!!!!!!!!! I was sooooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say that the pants Fiyero wears when you first see him – ARGH! Rob Mills – MY EYES DUDE!!!! And I never liked the Wizard but aww you just wanna pinch Bert Newtons cheeks man! 😀
As I knew I would, I was blubbering all the way through Act 1. No One Mourns the Wicked, The Wizard and I, I’m Not That Girl, One Short Day and Defying Gravity. Act 2 was a bit less of a cryfest – only For Good and the Finale had me crying….though I nearly started sobbing at one point.
Anyways so I had actually gone and tried out for teh lottery (second time I’d gone also) but didnt win and I was all ‘damnit i am gonna buy a ticket if i can get a good seat’. So there were 3 groups who were at the counter ahead of me who took FOREVER! But finally I was at the counter and I asked if there was a seat near the front. THERE WAS!! WOO!
So the lottery peeps get seats in the row AA which is the centre front row. the next row is BB but on the sides BB is the first row and I had a seat on the left right on the aisle. The only bad bit was when people would stand right in front of me and there was stuff going on behind them. But still I was ECSTATIC to get a seat right at the front people! WOO!
Anyways as well as buying a program I wasted a ridiculous amount of money on the grey hoodie. I only got that because the lighting in the foyer is shithouse and i am blind so i couldnt read the prices so I picked it and when the chick goes “that’ll be $65” i nearly had a heart attack. 😀
Anyways I have a friend who wants to see it so I am probably gonna try out for the lottery a few more times to try and get us in. But I would be happy to pay full price again.
