::: The Friday Five :::
havent done it for a while

1. What were your favorite childhood stories? In year 2 definately and another year in primary school that i cant recall now – at the end of the year we had to get a substitute teacher and both years we got Mrs Hart. I loved her! She was awesome!!! And the best thing about her was the stories she read us. I think I have waffled on here about when she read us Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl. She also read us the BFG, the Witches and a book called the Silver Crown by Robert C. O’Brien. My fave book i got from my all time fave childhood memory (wheni won the bookweek poster comp and got a book voucher) was The Tinderbox which i didnt even realise was by Hans Christian Anderson. i vividly recall the dogs and their huge eyes!! 🙂 We had a book of his stories that had these great illustrations and my fave was The Little Mermaid. I loved the pic of her saving the prince. We also has a set of Childcraft Encyclopedias which i DEVOURED!!!! i am not kidding. certain volumes i read from first to last page!!

2. What books from your childhood would you like to share with [your] children? Danny the Champion of the World – the best.

3. Have you re-read any of those childhood stories and been surprised by anything? I reread the Silver Crown sometime in my teens and I am pretty sure it wasnt as good as i remembered it. But Imay have been a bit critical then. I’d like to read it again.

4. How old were you when you first learned to read? Started learning in kindergarten – I was 5. Mum likes to tell me that when I got home from my first day at school I came home very disappointed that I couldnt read yet. 🙂

5. Do you remember the first ‘grown-up’ book you read? How old were you? Not a clue. I didnt start using libraries regularly till I was in year 6 and then I would read whatever was seemed popular at our school library. In high school i randomly would choose a section of shelf in their crap fiction section and devour it. But I definately read my first stephen king book in year 7 sometime. i mainly read horror for a year or two but it was definately year 7 when i started broadening my reading horizens. 🙂 i cant remember if it was year 7 or year 8 when my best friend got this book called H by Christiane F which was made into a pretty dull movie apart from the bowie-ness. i was fascinated. i have never used drugs but reading about other peoples drug use fascinates me. i tried finding a link about the book but all the links are about the movie. losers. the book was the good stuff. i have my own copy now. ^-^
