On Monday night on Australian’s ABC there is going to be a documentary on The Dalton Sisters. These girls go to theatre….A LOT!!!!! They are actually great friends with my supervisor at work. And I’ve met them – when S. and I went and saw the premiere of Fellowship of the Ring in Sydney (and paid $200 for the privelige) they had won free passes and came too.
clearly the theatre people dont understand the nature of obsession. my Notre Dame and Aida obsessions are no longer front runners – but if 1) they put productions on in Australia, 2) I had enough money to go to almost every performance – i would do it!!! I have seen Notre Dame live once and watched my dvd many times. its awesome. and i have seen a norti vid of a taped performance that a fan did of Aida – bad quality and all – it was wonderful!
and you could compare their theatre going to you or me sitting down and watching a favourite video or dvd hundreds of times till you know all the lines and can quote it backwards etc etc – the only difference is you pay for a video or dvd once and then you dont have to pay again (unless it breaks and you buy a new one) – where as they pay every time. its also comparable to paying to see every show your favourite band/musician does in your city.
and the theatre people should show some gratitude – its enthusiasm from people like the Dalton sisters that keeps our sad excuse for the australian musical theatre scene going.
