from this site:
“2-3 million Americans cannot vote due to drug related convictions in their past.”
what kinda wackiness is that? aren’t you allowed to vote in the US if you have a drug conviction? that is bloody stupid! the only reason you dont vote in australia is if you are under 18 or you never registered to vote. we have compulsory voting in oz which means everyone registered has to at least turn up at the polling booths and get their names marked off – you can then write whatever you like on your ballot. it just means that if you dont vote correctly your vote wont be counted
also whats with all these different ways to vote? all you do in oz is fill in the ballot with number 1 2 3 etc. and if you cant make it the day of the election to a polling booth in australia (you’re gonna be or already are out of the country) you can mail in your vote, and also some booths are open a few days before to take your votes early.
i dont think our system is perfect but it seems somewhat simpler.
