today i bludged off work because the excellent Alyson Hannigan – Willow Rosenberg in Buffy – was doing a signing in Grace Bros in Sydney. i only found out about it last nite and i was just a little bit excited.
i got to sydney at the normal time i would get there if i had gone to work. i had to buy a few magazines, and then i went up and got the morning maccas and ate it there instead of taking it with me – what a novelty that was!
i got to GB a little before 10:30 and made my way up to level 5, just planning to scope out the location and maybe buy a video because i know at these things they like you to have bought something in their store. it keeps the money grubbing freaks happy.
so i get there and there are already a shitload of people in line. it’s two hours at least before she is gonna show and people are sitting there. man was i glad i arrived then. i quickly bought a video and sat behind two girls who seemed on friendly terms with one of the GB staff.
in the next half an hour they got us to get up and move a few times as the rearranged the queue, and i forget what time it was, but finally the moved us down a bit further and where we were had very little room to sit so for at least an hour and half i was on my feet, even before Aly appeared in the store.
there was this really annoying cow who was probably GB’s little mc type person for this instore things and man she was a bloody drip – everytime she opened her mouth you hear a heap of people just groan. it was pretty funny.
finally Aly showed up and she looked really lovely. she had a huge grin on her face and looked happy to be there, which was nice. they pounced straight into the signing because there were hundreds of people there. people kept arriving all the way up to when she arrived and there was just a shitload of people wanting her autograph.
the rules were 1) you had to have bought a video that day in that store, and 2) you could only have one thing signed. also – by the time i got near Aly they were stopping people from sitting next to Aly and getting their photos taken with her because she was only supposed to be there an hour (ha!)
as i approached Aly i took some snaps of her signing other peoples stuff with a really crappy disposable camera i bought. i predict that most of the picture will NOT come out. i am so bad with a camera unless it has auto-focusing (like my dads!) – though i did remember to use the flash every time so i guess thats a plus.
so my turn, i have my photo out that i want her to sign (one of Angel and Buffy with Evil Willow – everyone i showed said ‘hey thats a cool picture’ but i got it a few months ago at Galaxy so i dont know what the fuss was about) and i went up to her and i said ‘hi’ and she said ‘how are you’ and i said ‘uh….my names rebecca….um…i’m good!’ and she signed my pic as i took a photo of her and then i said thanks and wandered away in daze. she probably thought ‘what was she on?’ 🙂
so – my Alyson adventure……….how pathetic!
